Both the Brownlee brothers are nursing relatively minor injuries at the moment. At this pivotal time in the season, it’s understandable that their coaches are keen to be cautious.
Alistair is currently nursing an ankle injury and has decided to miss this event in the hope that he’ll be fully fit for the Rio test event on Brazil in a couple of weeks. However, Jonathan has a stress fracture that he needs to rest if he’s going to complete his season’s programme.
So, what does this mean for Team GB? Well, the focus is definitely on the women. Non Stanford, Vicky Holland and Jodie Stimpson will all be pushing as hard as they can for the top positions in Germany. It’s likely that eyes will be drawn to Vicky Holland this weekend as she managed a 7th place finish in the same event last year. She’s also in very good form at the moment after finishing 5th in Hyde Park.
Though it’s a blow not having the Brownlee brothers racing, it’s still looking like it will be a great weekend of racing.
